Designed by Moldovan sculptor Alexandru Plămădeală, the statue shows Ștefan cel Mare holding a cross in his hand—a symbol of his deep faith and the role religion played in his leadership. During the Soviet era, the statue was temporarily removed, but it was reinstated in 1989 as a powerful statement of national pride and independence.
