This monumental site honors the heroes who gave their lives during World War II and other major conflicts that have shaped the country’s history. With its iconic architecture and reflective atmosphere, it is a place of remembrance, reverence, and national pride.
History and significance
The Memorial Complex Eternitate was established in 1975 during the Soviet era to commemorate the victims of World War II. After Moldova’s independence in 1991, the site was renamed and redesigned to also honor other national tragedies and acts of heroism.
At the heart of the complex burns the Eternal Flame, symbolizing enduring respect and remembrance for those who sacrificed their lives for the country’s freedom. Each year on May 9, Victory Day, flowers are laid and remembrance ceremonies are held at the site.
